Meaning 2015

Meaning is the annual gathering for people who believe business can and must be a force for positive change in our dynamic and volatile world.

At Meaning you’ll connect with people who feel the same. Together, you’ll be inspired by pioneers who are doing things differently and with ideas from the edges.

Our speakers are international thinkers and doers from business, academia and activism, each bringing an individual perspective on the challenges and opportunities we face.

Since 2012, Meaning has provided an annual gathering for smart people wanting to change the world of business for the better.

At Meaning, there’s an atmosphere of shared visions and of open-minded camaraderie. There is discussion, there is challenge and there is joy.

Between inspiring talks, there are chances to reflect and digest what you’ve heard. Allegiances are formed and world-altering plans are hatched over coffee.

Our venue sets the scene perfectly: the historic Corn Exchange in the forward-looking city of Brighton. And we believe the best ideas should be discussed over a good meal, so at Meaning, we share a hearty lunch of wonderful food.

The day after Meaning

After a day of inspiring talks and workshops your brain will be fizzing with possibilities. What happens next? What’s the best way to process all that inspiration?

Meaning’s optional unconference takes place on Friday 13 November – the day after the main Meaning conference. It is your day. A day for reflection, discussion and debate. A day for connection and co-creation. No pre-arranged speakers, no agenda, just Meaning makers doing their thing.

The tried-and-tested unconference format puts you in control. We provide the space, you decide the issues, you decide on the sessions and you decide what matters most.

Feel free to bring prepared sessions to offer the group. Bring props. Bring energy. Create change.

Tickets for the Meaning unconference can be bought with or without a ticket to the main Meaning conference the day before. And it might just be the best bit.

An optional extra day of Meaning – an unconference with no speakers and no fixed agenda.

When: Friday 13 November 2015.

Where: TBC

Let’s talk about better business

A conversation is the smallest unit of change. So as an experiment this year we’ve created a Meaning conference social channel (using Slack) as a space for you to share insights, create connections and make plans together. Slack is informal, easy to use and free to sign up for. Give it a try.

The place to be...

Meaning takes place at Brighton’s beautiful and historic Corn Exchange, right in the heart of the city’s bustling North Laine.

There’ll be coffee and top quality biscuits during the breaks. And for lunch we’ll share a really lovely vegetarian meal.

Brighton Dome Corn Exchange
Church Street, Brighton, UK

Our venue is 10 minutes walk downhill from Brighton railway station – there are regular trains from London and along the coast.

Parking can be tricky and expensive in Brighton. Your best option is to use the Church Street NCP. Make sure you ask staff at the conference venue for a discount card before you leave at the end of the day.

Places to stay

Make the most of your visit and stay the night. If you want to be super near the conference venue then you can’t get any closer than MyHotel. Or you could find a unique experience via AirBnB.

Free places for students, social enterprises and small charities

We want Meaning to be rich with ideas, experiences and visions. But we know not everyone finds it easy to afford the ticket price. So we want to help:

Make a 90 second video that explains why you want to come to Meaning, post it to YouTube or Vimeo, then send a link to sayhello@meaningconference.co.uk. Then we’ll ask our generous partner organisations to cover the cost of your ticket. These places will be limited, so give it your best shot.

Buy one, give one

Feeling generous? Want to sponsor a free place for someone who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it? Brilliant.
